Artist Statement

I am inspired by intelligence. No subject is off limits to me. My mediums are clearly defined in statements below, but words hinder imagination. Museums want us to have a focus, something one can sell on a department store rack.  I just returned from The Tate Modern (August 2026), and the two things I found most interesting were:

a. The Architecture between the two buildings.

&

b. The Bruce Connor film taken from unclassified material from the U.S. Government testing the atomic bomb in the Pacific. (Read that sentence back and find the absurdity.)

By the way, I am one of the few remaining members of Connor's Rat Bastard Society.

I remember The Tate from when it was in its pure infancy. It was riveting and mind-bending.

That's what art should be.

Paintings, Drawings, Installations :: Slide Gallery Below

Color, texture, and scale are essential details in my work, be it painting, installations, floral art, poetry, or music. I often paint with a knife, and beneath each finished work there are often two or three others buried. The scrape-backs are like scabs revealing the

life-blood of the work.

I learned to paint, stretch, and frame paintings as a student, apprentice, gallery coordinator, and long-time companion to California Beat Painter Wally Hedrick. My medium for large-scale work is now acrylic, and for my tiny jewel series, original photo transfers on wood block, paint, and encaustic, building my own frames.
